“I am certain people can change. It is a matter of connecting them with their inner resources. That is the therapeutic task.” – Virginia Satir
I started in the human services field back in the early 80’s after finishing an Associate of Arts Degree from Bellevue Community College (now known as Bellevue College). I later worked as a volunteer with Youth Eastside Services. From Seattle University, I received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Counseling with a specialty in Alcoholism Treatment and Recovery. Upon graduation, I served as an intern at First Step Outpatient Program working with adults and adolescents. I went on to work part-time at First Step while I started a private practice in Bellevue, Washington.
Throughout decades of working in private practice I have pursued and established my self-care through the study of Buddhist thought and practice, the 8 limbs of yoga, pranayama, mindfulness and meditation, nutrition, holistic healing (I am a 2nd degree Reiki master) and some of the Native American traditions. As a life long learner I continue to pursue my education through workshops, conferences, retreats, intensives and trainings. I have studied many modalities although my foundation stems from phenomenology and a developmental framework in terms of human behavior. This quote from Virginia Satir, that I have on the wall of my office, says it best for me – “I am certain people can change. It is a matter of connecting them with their inner resources. That is the therapeutic task”.
I enjoy working with individuals, couples, adolescents, families and groups. Currently, I offer two groups that meet weekly for adults working on family of origin issues and a monthly group that is made up of graduates from the weekly group who want the benefit of ongoing support. I also offer parent consultations for families that are having difficulty with communication, structure, and consistency. My schedule is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday evenings and Thursdays.
If you are interested in learning more about how I work please call me and set up a Meet and Greet (a 30-40 minute no charge appointment designed to give you and me an opportunity to meet face to face in my office to help us determine how we might work together).
